Holy Week in Mallorca
Hooded penitent
Holy Week

In Palma the Asociación de Cofradias de Semana Santaarranges processions every day from Palm Sunday until Good Friday. Statues are carried by penitents, many of whom are hooded and they march to the sound of muffled drums but there is no longer any flagellation with chains.

The most interesting procession is the Santo Cristo de la Sangre on Maundy Thursday and the Interment on Good Friday which is also held all over the Island. On Good Friday at midday there is a performance of the drama Via Crucis, by Llorenc Moyá which is notable for the sparseness of its props and the close proximity between the actors and the general public.
