On 15th August 1901, Alaró became the first town in Mallorca to have an urban electricity network. All that remained of the plant was the chimney and this was restored to commemorate its centenary in 2001.

There is excellent climbing around Alaró where some of the more difficult routes are bolted.

Alaró Castle cannot be reached by road. There is a two-kilometre stretch from the car park that has to be made on foot. There is a restaurant at the castle and simple accommodation is available. All goods and provisions reach the castle by donkey.
