Portol and pots are synonymous. Dishes for cooking on the hob or in the oven, ashtrays for the terrace, and plant pots and lamps for your garden. Nowadays, although the kilns are no longer fired by wood, you can still see the potters throwing their pots on the wheel. You can buy articles from their
workshops or from their stands at fairs and fiestas.
The biggest fair is the Pottery Fair, or Fira del Fang, which is held in spring. Take home a siurell, a whistle thought to date back several thousand years B.C. Or admire the white glazed earthenware with its highly stylised single coloured design and see its echo in fine Mallorcan embroideries.
